Car Boot Sale

I found lots of old toys, games and clothes in Mum and Dad's loft, so we went to a local car boot sale and sold it all to raise funds for Progressio. It took us all afternoon, but we made £65, so an afternoon well spent!

Pete, Charlotte and I at the car boot sale!

We spent the rest of the long bank holiday weekend at home in Sutton Coldfield, we had a picnic, an Indian and a Chinese (not all in one day!) but Pete is back at work tomorrow, so we are heading back to Bristol now.

Long weekend in Sofia

We stayed in Yotel in Gatwick airport last Wednesday night. It was a tiny compact hotel room to put our heads down for a few hours before our 6am flight. Sofia was a great city for a long weekend. We did some sightseeing, enjoyed the sunshine, ate some good food and enjoyed drinking £1 pints in cafes in parks across the city.

We went to a hidden bar lit entirely by candles, and went to a restaurant with a beer tap on every table, so you could help yourself to more beer! We went on a walking tour, a pub crawl, a Brazilian night and ate so much we couldn't sleep - all in all a good break!

Pete refilling his water bottle at the mineral springs. The water is said to have healing powers.

We flew back into London Stansted and went to Meat Liquor in Central London with Sara and John. We had to queue up for a table, it was dark and noisy inside, but had the best chicken burgers in London!

First week of my career break!

My last day in the office was Wednesday 8th May. I have spent most of this week planning and learning Bulgarian for next week. Hazel and I met Jo and baby Neive for lunch, I went to the library and to the dentist! I had my hair cut, baked a cake, planted some cress and did some gardening! I tidied the house, unblocked the drains and cleaned the fridge! I had a lie in and a cup of tea in bed everyday and Pete and I went for dim sum in Watersky.

I've been accepted onto the International Citizen Service programme as a team leader with the charity Progressio. I will be going to Honduras in Central America at the end of June with a group of volunteers from the UK who will work with volunteers from Honduras in a small rural community to build community cohesion and tackle local issues such as poverty, inequality and empowerment of  local rural women. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm sure it will be challenging, but international development is something I'm interested in and looking forward to learning more about. Now I need to get fundraising, and start learning Spanish!
