We have been doing different bits and pieces over the last couple of weeks. Olive’s school was started ten years ago by the people who run a really nice hotel and restaurant, El Albergue. There is a distillery and coffee making facility next door that we had a look round (and tried), the Casa Nova spirit is lovely - made from sugar cane.
There are all sorts of ruins surrounding us in the valley. We had a wander down to a modest free one which was fun. We had the place to ourselves and Olive loved paddling in one of the many irrigation channels babbling about the place.
We took another walk over a bridge and just enjoyed wandering round the back streets leading out of town.
There was a fiesta in town celebrating Tres Cruces (three crosses) with some crazy rhythmical dancing, never seen such a sight before!
We have spent ages trying to find stuff for Olive to do but there just isn’t much for kids. She did enjoy a chocolate workshop though.
We haven’t loved the food in Ollanta but there are a few good restaurants that we have enjoyed including Amanto, Sunshine and, to celebrate Selina’s 40th, we went to Chuncho and at long last tried some Cuy (Guinea pig) - very tasty.
