Back in Wellie

We felt so relieved that we got the ferry - phew! We ended up camping in Owhiro Bay at half four in the morning - a beautiful place. I got a surprise in the morning, I popped into the back of the van to offer Selina a cuppa and when I looked back at the beach someone was skinny dipping. I didn’t know where to look so I stared at the back of the van till everything cleared!

We took one of the four wheeled froggy bikes for a spin by Wellington harbour.

The botanical gardens were fun - watching the cable cars and understanding the sundial with Olive.

Our friends - Dave and Rachel - put us up for a couple of nights. It was such a relief to not be in the van for a bit. Thanks guys.

The main thing we did while we stayed with them (apart from their great hospitality and phenomenal curry) was to watch the England team lose a test match in the most spectacular way over the last two days of the test. Wow. Leach got five wickets, Williamson a century and top all time NZ runs, Root nearly got a century and Anderson nearly won it for us. I’ve never seen a cricket game twist and turn so much. Thrilling!

The next day we went to Staglands as a reward for Olive and Boo’s cricket patience. It was such a lovely place. The aviaries were great and the mocked up bush village super. No tourists, just locals.
