We arrived into Arequipa a few days before Selina’s sister Sara arrived to suss out the place. It’s a really nice place with the usual Plaza del Armas and lots of lovely shops and eateries.
We stayed in a lovely place called Casona Solar with Sara, Hugo and Harrison. It was a UNESCO building where the second president lived. The owners were lovely. On our first proper day we visited Santa Catalina Monestery. It was a massive citadel with lots of interesting tales about the Nuns that lived there. They all slept in beds under arches to protect them from earthquakes and spent their entire lives there. The kids loved playing with the old laundry system.
We enjoyed a crazy drink of sweet fruit with anis alcohol on a street side but the food was a bit rubbish.
