The roads were open again as we left Huacachina which was a relief as we were within eye sight of Ica where a lot of the protests had been happening. We had a quick intro to how Pisco (a local spirit) is made and tasted some, then did the drive down to Nazca with some stunning views.
We stopped at a lookout to get our first glimpse of the Nazca lines. These are ancient geometric lines in the desert, either made by pre-Incas 1500 years ago or maybe aliens! We could see etchings of a lizard, hands and the tree of life.
We took it up a level the next day and took a 6 seater plane up to see the other 9 lines.
I’ve never been in such a tiny plane. I was sat next to the door so I had to lock it shut - I could open the door at any stage! It was great fun and surprisingly not at all claustrophobic. It was however incredibly hot, like a sauna and very choppy as we swung left and right to see the different lines. We all felt the lurching in our bellies. My favourites were the hummingbird and the astronaut, although we were all fazing out after a bit thinking of our tummies so maybe some of the later ones were better!
I like this photo as you can see the lookout tower we went to (if you squint - these lines really aren’t photogenic!).
What an adventure. I kept thinking of Harrison Ford!
