We have always wanted to come to Peru but it’s obviously a long way from home, at last we’ve made it. We have been enjoying walking round Miraflores, Barranco and Centro Historico in Lima, looking at impressive buildings, eating and drinking more great coffee! First impressions are of a great capital that feels safe, clean and friendly, maybe more developed than expected.
Ceviche (raw fish) is big here so we’ve already had loads of it. We haven’t knowingly tried Guinea pig yet which is a national delicacy!
We travelled across to Victoria one evening to see a water fountain light deisplay that is meant to be fun. We didn’t realise that it was right next to the national football stadium which was entertaining a World Cup qualifier between Peru and Paraguay. The atmosphere was wonderful, friendly and very much not drink fuelled, so different to England! We all bought Peru shirts and watched the game on a big screen in the fountain park eye balling the stadium. Great fun.
We have booked a coach service called Peruhop to take us from Lima all the way through to Arequipa stopping off at all the good spots.
